There can be malicious spamware in it and if you add it to your blog Blogger will delete your blog. Just like that. No warning. GONE. Trust me...I just learned the hard way. Which seems to be the only way I learn anything. Sigh....Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-41372817000512395812011-06-02T10:23:00.000-07:002011-06-02T10:23:12.175-07:00strange brew....This is June in California? Thunderstroms, hail, lightning strikes and tornado warnings? That was yesterday and today is sunny but still cool. So strange....but I actually love it. Well not the tornado warning and lightning strikes but I'm not a hot weather gal and I'll take this over out 100+ summers anyday. I'll just have to keep stocking up on our allergy meds, lol.
I liked the one before it too but didn't love it so I kept looking. I just happened to see this floral one and it's perfect. I love the little doodle border against the vintage image. It's a keeper....at least for a few weeks, lol.Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-21410278599486139682011-05-11T11:54:00.000-07:002011-05-22T23:05:23.881-07:00tweeting....I've come to the conclusion that this mini blog of mine is turning out to be my own personal Twitter. Don't know if anyone stops by but I still get a kick out of posting little snippets now and then.

Today I'm rediscovering tea dyeing. I use to tea dye everything...fabric, lace, bags, paper. I love that instant patina you get from dunking something new in a dark bowl of tea. I'm experimenting with a few scraps of fabric I fell in love with. Will see what happens....

And as you can see, my tea dyeing obsession carried over to my FP blog. I decided my new background and banner could use a little bit of antiqueing too.Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-80745651894962633842011-05-10T13:59:00.000-07:002011-05-10T13:59:01.154-07:00on her way....Sent out my package.....and crossing my fingers :)Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-3490479548413782222011-04-26T08:46:00.000-07:002011-05-22T23:04:32.776-07:00guilty pleasure....Well that's what the theme is on Dancing With the Stars this week and DWTS is one of my guilty pleasures. I was soooo ready to finally vote this morning but too late....again. Oh well...
You know what that means? Water For Elephants opens this month. Yipee! I'm really looking forward to seeing it but I also have to share something I stumbled onto this morning while having my cup of hot cocoa.

I decided to browse through movie trailers and found a little indie film that just happened to open yesterday. There is something I love about foreign films, particularly documentaries. I don't mind reading subtitles because the sound of a different language fascinates me. I love the glimpse into another culture's way of life or point of view.

This movie is called "Circo". It's a documentary about a small family owned traveling circus working the back country roads of Mexico. The main focus is the drama behind the family struggling to continue a 100 year old tradition despite economic and emotional hardship. The film has had rave reviews and won several indie film awards. It's directed by Aaron Schock.

Unfortunately the only theatre showing it anywhere near me is nearly 2 hours away in Berkley. Although I love going to San Francisco and Berkley I am not a fan of driving through their nerve wracking traffic. So I'll cross my fingers that it makes it to a theatre nearby or just wait for it to come out on DVD.Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-34697065789505806492011-04-01T18:25:00.000-07:002011-04-01T18:25:31.090-07:00winter into.....summer?Just like that the weather did a complete turn around. Last week we were pummeled with high winds, flooding and freezing temps and yesterday and today it's been 81 degrees. Nearly all the pretty blossoms on the trees have given way to leafy greens. I hope we still get a little bit more of Spring. I'm not quite ready for Summer yet....actually I'm never ready for Summer, at least not the crazy heat we get here anyway. But it is wonderful to have more daylight later in the day. Twilight and dusk are my very favorite times of the day.

I'm really excited about the Spring Fairy Wand swap I joined over at Bliss Angels. Already getting ideas so I hope I can come up with the perfect one for the Fairy Queen.
I love Dancing With The Stars. My mother got me hooked on it a few years ago and it's something we enjoy watching 'together'. She lives 2 hours away but we love to talk about how everyone did and who might get sent home.

I wasn't always a fan and thought 'Oh not me...I don't have the time or desire to watch any of those 'silly' shows.' Well the year my dad passed away, my mom stayed with us for several months. (She was watching DWTS from Season One and kept trying to get me to see it.) That season Kristi Yamaguchi, the Olympic Figure Skater, was a contestant. You might know I'm a big Figure Skating fan so I watched the first show to see how Kristi did and I was hooked after her first dance. She went on to win that season.

I just love her attitude about life, her wicked sense of humor and how she doesn't hold back. I also love that crazy Alice In Wonderland style house of hers with all her animals.

Since I actually got a few things done this early morning, I'm going to have my hot cocoa and buttered toast and watch my recording of last night's DWTS. Let's see how Kirsti and Maks did with their quick step.Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-13077803018719589732011-03-23T12:48:00.000-07:002011-03-23T12:59:39.738-07:00farewell elizabethJust learned that the legendary Elizabeth Taylor passed away a few hours ago. She was truly a star and absolutely beautiful, not just on the outside but the inside as well. I grew up watching reruns of Cleopatra which my mom loves, and I remember her telling me about the scandal and off screen love affair between Liz and Richard Burton. The original Brad and Angelina.

Years and years ago she launched her first fragrance called Elizabeth Taylor's Passion. I was working in retail at that time, in the Fragrance department at Macy's. Back then a fragrance launch was a huge deal. All the sales reps were invited to San Francisco for the day and we got to meet Miss Taylor. It was like meeting the Queen. I honestly can't remember what I said to her but I was struck by how petite she was and how really violet her eyes were.

She had a truly amazing life. Grand, passionate, tumultuous, scandalous and not least of all, inspiring. She was a Pisces after all {lol} and certainly the last of the real classic Hollywood stars. The heavens will shine just a little bit brighter I think.Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-70951460906626100882011-03-21T11:54:00.000-07:002011-03-21T11:54:37.507-07:00a bit of sunWhat a mess the storm left behind this weekend! The storm that blew in on Saturday was a pretty big one. Trees came down and we were on flood alert until early Sunday morning. It's always nerve wracking when we get one of those considering our house is about a half mile from the river. But the sun decided to come out today, at least for a little bit until the rain comes back again tomorrow.

Working on some art again and playing with a new background for my other blog. I've been really drawn to a much darker pallete lately and I'm just loving it. Not sure if it's the circus theme or maybe I'm finally finding my own style....which is definitely not pastel.

I had a truly lovely day yesterday (even if it started out with a not so lovely allergy headache). Such wonderful and sweet well wishes from family and dear friends.

The weather could not be anymore perfect and all around me, trees where covered with buds and pretty pink blossoms. I also spied bright yellow daffodils and jonquils too.

Oh...and...and...on the drive to my son's school there were two peahens running across the road! Every Spring a few of them wander into my neighborhood and it's always such a surprise to see them.

I treated myself to one bright pink balloon which I carried around while doing my shopping. Everyone thought it was for someone else of course, and I said 'Oh it's for me!'

And yes I went for a little stroll with my parasol on my way out to lunch. I was treated to a lovely dinner by my boys (hubby and son) and we finished the night with a half dozen oh so yummy birthday ice cream cupcakes with pink frosting and sprinkles (and cream frosting with Oreo cookie chunks)...There are three more left in the freezer...for now :)

The best part was the singing. I love to sing along to Happy Birthday songs...especially when it's for me!

And that was my little birthday. I feel blissfully blessed and look forward to another wondrous year. ♥
It's my birthday today!

I'm sneaking around over here because I wanted to do a birthday post on the other blog....but was running behind....because....because...I had my nose stuck in a book.

Yes, a book. I just finished Water For Elephants and I just absolutely loved it. Thank you thank you to my dear friend Marfi who recommended it. I didn't even know it was being made into a movie (duh)....that opens next month! So how fab is that? I can't wait to see it.

{turn off my music player on the right before watching the trailer}
I best get started on my Mardi Gras/International Womens Day/Birthday day!
It's really really late...like 2am late. Well early if you're already getting up. I can't get things to work right. The mini music player won't work and the YouTube videos won't play. But I'm very sleepy now so I'll see you a little later.

Oh today was super sunny and I found a really cool treasure at the thrift shop!

Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-41996725179136078862011-03-02T09:23:00.000-08:002011-03-04T02:32:31.296-08:00chance of artIt's really cloudy here today....and there's most definitely a chance of art. I sent off the last part of my project for my brother late last night. Yay! My March bag is up so I think I'm caught up enough to start on my new collage.

So much for using my vintage laces for my bag. I started with a different bag and wanted to do more of a Magnolia Pearl inspired look. But it wasn't coming together the way I wanted so I'll save it for next time. The little bag I used is one of my favorites. It's not big enough for everyday....are you kidding me?....my wallet would barely fit in it, lol! But I use it for quick trips or I throw it into a big tote bag when we're on holiday at a fun place like San Francisco.

Are there clouds today where you are?

Time for buttered toast and hot cocoa.....

Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-9119697054852708702011-02-27T02:23:00.000-08:002011-02-27T02:24:52.717-08:00all doneIt took me forever to finally get my new banner right! I think I ended up with around 9 versions before I liked the way it turned out. Anyone notice the new haircut on my napkin girl? :)

I'm the one that really needs a haircut but I can't decide what I want to do with it!

I hope you like my VERY colorful banner and background for Spring. :)

Now that I also finished my paper dress I can work on the next bag challenge. I think I might do something with some of my vintage lace scraps. Hmmm....

Petuniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03671956247110436251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230429469400193005.post-66348820025463109942011-02-24T13:31:00.000-08:002011-02-24T13:42:37.346-08:00the one about the turtleWell this was a completely impulsive and surprising twist to my day. Out of the blue I was suddenly hit by this line...cloudy with a chance of art.....and I thought hmmm, that could be a fun title for my next post. A little play on the name of that silly movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Then the idea hit to start another blog and use it as a spot to just toss my random thoughts, ramblings and non project related things. A simpler one that's less visual than my other one and won't require me to do my usual picture editing and digital doodling. Of course I absolutely love doing that, and that's what Frosted Petunias is all about. That will always be my main blog.

So I'm not sure exactly what this new nook will be. Maybe more of a behind the scenes sort of thing and just something on the side for anyone stopping by to have a peek. Or even a place to test ideas before bringing them over to my other one. Pointless....maybe. But I'm loving the idea of options and today just felt like that kind of a day.

To this I'd like to add this random thought:

When my son was about 5 or 6 he went through this phase where he really wanted a turtle. We always have a cat and thanks to a traumatic experience with my friend's 2 'lovable' Rottweillers, he was deeply terrified of dogs. So he decided one day that a turtle would be perfect. And I thought sure, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

We researched turtle care, looked at different ones whenever we visited the pet store. Thought of where to best put a new turtle and how to keep the cat from inflicting mortal damage on it. And of course he also thought of names. I think Franklin was one of them, like the one in the cartoon he loved.

My son would just keep talking about this turtle for days and days. Morning till night he would go on and on, until one day I noticed he didn't say anything about it. And another day went by and still another and there was no mention of desiring said turtle.

So I said 'Sweetie don't you still want to get a turtle?'

'I don't know, maybe not' said my little guy.

'Why not?'

'Auntie J (that's the friend with the Rottweillers) said they can live over 100 years and what if I don't live that long? Who will take care of him?'

And my heart just melted and I made a wish that my sweet little boy would always have this kind of caring soul, which he does today (he's 14). Yes, it was one of those Hallmark moments that you try to take a snapshot of and tuck away in your heart forever.

For no apparent reason I remembered that this morning after I dropped him off at school, which made me smile and grateful to be his mom.

Well we never did get a turtle, he got over his fear of dogs and even asked if we would ever get one. But like me, he is really a cat person and he always picks each kitty we rescue at the shelter. I'm sure our Luna really appreciates he picked her.

And finally....

I just finished a new background and header for March. I decided to make one to celebrate my birthday and since I won't be able to celebrate it in New Orleans on Mardi Gras, I thought I would try to come up with something fun for that week.

All for now....
